Had dinner with N last night. Tried out this restaurant at Level 6 Westfield called Spiedo (pronounced Spi-eh-do). Loving that we are having one nice meal a week, especially after 2 years of lots of home-cooked meals and cheap thai take-aways (which I so do love).
Entree: Casoncelli alla Bresciana ($24/31)
Veal & pork filled casoncelli, burnt butter, sage, crispy pancetta (obviously i’m copying this off their menu). Very appetising, although a tad too cheesy.
Main: Tagliolini, Granchio, Limone, Melanzane ($24/31)
Tagliolini (Italian for chinese chow mien I’m assuming lol), crab meat, lemon, eggplant. Although this dish didn’t blow my mind, it was still really delicious, and very easy to eat. Lots of crab meat, although on hindsight it wasn’t as lemony as it could be.
Dessert: Spiedo Tiramisu
We actually ordered the Spiedo dessert plate ($18) , which also came with the most amazing strawberry gelato and barbajada. The tiramisu is omg ‘deconstructed’ so you fully taste every part of it. Quite strong, so it wasn’t really for me since I have a sweet tooth, but still totally killed my taste buds.
Overall, good food but nothing that really wow-ed us. Nathan ordered the Spiedo Bresciano ($39) as his main, which is basically a Brescian style spit roast of duck, pork ribs, pork neck and chicken. Scary and carnivorous. Prices are a bit on the high end for me (poor uni student), but if you go there before 7pm, you can opt for the Pre-Theatre menu – begins from 5.30 – 7pm, leave by 7.45pm, and pay $49 for two courses (one entree and main, or one main and dessert).
Already thinking about somewhere else to go next week. Any recommendations??
